Astrology is often used to explain behaviour. When astrologers analyse the charts of historical figures or controversial individuals, they frequently point to certain placements and suggest that these configurations reveal the reasons behind destructive actions. Yet this approach risks misunderstanding the true nature of astrology.

A birth chart is not the means to explain morality. It describes archetypal forces within consciousness.

These forces are neutral in themselves. They represent currents of experience through which the individual will live, learn and evolve. The planets, signs and houses describe the structure of those currents but they do not determine how they will ultimately be expressed.

This is where an essential truth about astrology emerges:

“Every archetype contains a polarity of expression.”

The Archetypes Are Neutral

Each planet represents a fundamental force of consciousness expressed through human experience.

Mars represents the power to act and initiate movement.
Venus represents the capacity to value, attract and relate.
Pluto represents the force of transformation and deep change.

These archetypal powers unfold across a spectrum of expression shaped by the level of awareness through which they are lived.

Mars may emerge as courage, protection and purposeful action. The same force can also manifest through aggression, domination and destructive assertion.

Venus may unfold as love, harmony and appreciation. The same current may express through possession, indulgence or the urge to control affection and value.

Pluto may awaken psychological depth and transformative insight. The same depth may manifest through manipulation, obsession or the pursuit of power over others.

Within every archetype lives a spectrum of potential expression. The planetary force remains constant while consciousness determines the level through which that force becomes lived experience.

The Path of Good and Evil

Within every birth chart, the archetypal forces can move in two possible directions.

Ascending Expression (Evolutionary Integration):
The individual becomes conscious of the archetype and begins to express it constructively. The force is integrated into awareness and used creatively, responsibly and wisely.

Descending Expression (Evolutionary Distortion):
The same archetypal force manifests unconsciously. Instead of being integrated, it becomes compulsive, destructive or predatory.

In both cases, the chart remains exactly the same. What differs is the level of consciousness through which the archetype operates.

This is why two people with similar configurations can live radically different lives. The chart reveals the energies available to the soul, but it does not dictate how those energies must be expressed.

Astrology as a Tool for Evolution

When astrology is understood in this way, its purpose becomes much deeper than prediction or explanation.

The birth chart becomes a map of evolutionary responsibility.

It shows the forces that shape a life and reveals the areas where consciousness must grow. Each archetype invites the individual to become aware of its power and to participate consciously in its expression.

The chart therefore cannot know what we are.
It reveals what we can become.

Every placement carries both creative and destructive potential. The same configuration that produces wisdom in one life may produce harm in another.

The difference lies in how consciously the archetype is lived.

The Moral Dimension of the Birth Chart

Recognising this polarity restores something essential to astrology. It reminds us that human beings are not passive expressions of their charts. They are participants in the unfolding of the archetypes within them.

The birth chart shows the structure of the forces at work in a life. It reveals the full spectrum of their expression.

But the direction those forces take is always shaped by consciousness and choice. The archetypes remain the same. The individual determines whether they become instruments of creation or instruments of destruction.

Closing Reflection

The birth chart does not divide people into the good and the bad. It reveals the forces through which both possibilities exist. Evolution begins when the individual recognises the power of those forces and chooses to express them consciously.

Affirmation

“I recognise the archetypal powers within me and I choose the path that elevates consciousness and serves creation.”
